I was just writing a friend about why I try not to be a dick to people on Tumblr anymore, even the ones I don’t like, and I realized, as I was typing my official reason, why I really don’t do it. I’m not trying to be nicer. Not at all. It’s just that one day…
I’d just like to point out that this is in fact the exact thesis of the new niceness article. Social media takes away the anonymity that fostered flame wars, and we’re nice to everyone in public because we covet their followers.
